Gaasterland Amends Campaign Disclosures to Report Missing “Knowledge for the Vote” Payments
In an October 23 News Update, the Sandpiper raised the question whether Council candidate Terry Gaasterland had violated campaign disclosure laws related to her use of the Knowledge for the Vote (KFTV) email service.
On October 26, Gaasterland filed two amended statements to disclose KFTV-related contributions and payments. These filings amended her original Sept. 24 and Oct. 22, 2026 disclosure statements.
Newly disclosed: two contributions from herself to her campaign committee, with matching payments to Google for the KFTV email service, on Sept. 1 and Oct. 1.
Punch line: Gaasterland’s amendments to her Form 460 filings are a tacit acknowledgment that she should have disclosed KFTV-related contributions and payments in her original filings, which were signed under penalty of perjury. Her 2022 campaign filings disclose three KFTV-related expenditures, demonstrating that she was aware four years ago of her obligation under California campaign disclosure laws to disclose these payments.
