2026 Fall Benefit: Dinner, Drinks, Dueling Pianos!

On October 3, DMCC will celebrate the incredible community support that makes it possible to serve older adults aging independently at home with a night of music and mayhem! The fun-filled interactive evening will feature the Killer Dueling Pianos, as well as a sunset cocktail hour, delicious dinner, and open wine and beer bar. Fight the Flu – It Starts With You!

Did you know approximately 80% of flu deaths occur in older adults? The single most important measure you can take to protect yourself and loved ones from influenza is to get your flu vaccine shot every Fall.

DMCC will host our annual flu vaccine clinic on Friday, September 18, 12:30pm – 3pm, on the patio of the Del Mar Community Building, 225 9th St. A CVS pharmacist will be there to dispense shots specialized for the 65+ population, and shots are free with Medicare and most private insurance plans. Covid boosters will be available too – you can get double the protection in one visit! Have a snack on us while you enjoy a beautiful view of the ocean, say hello to friends and neighbors, and do your part to protect yourself and the community from infectious disease. This year, you’ll also have the opportunity to meet new Del Mar Fire Marshal Medi Maldonado, who will attend and provide all the resources that our local hero first responders have to keep our community safe.

Volunteer of the Month – July and August

DMCC’s Volunteer of the Month for July 2026 was Tema Halpern. Tema is a former board member of DMCC, who was co-nominated by current board member Ann Feeney for her invaluable work on the Social Good Time Committee, who said “Tema is such a valuable member of the team, always volunteering to help out at all of our social events, and coming up with innovative ideas to make them even better.” Tema was co-nominated by Tuesday Lunch Connections Captain Phyllis Mirsky, who said “Tema’s enthusiasm, kindness, and dedication make a difference in everything she does. She brings warmth, energy, and a genuine spirit of service to our community.”

In August, we recognized two volunteers, married couple Enid and Mark Sherman. Enid is a member of the Program Committee who shows a lot of determination as she helps to shape our educational programming, as well as the instructor of our Learn to Play Mah Jongg class. Enid’s husband Mark brought something completely new and creative to DMCC’s activity calendar by teaching Watercolors for Beginners. DMCC Programs Committee Chair Carol German commented “Enid and Mark bring a wealth of passion, experience, and heart to everything they do. They embody the welcoming, neighborly spirit that makes Del Mar such a special place to live.”
