Fair Housing Sites

The number of potential sites for affordable housing on the Del Mar Fairgrounds has increased from three to six, according to a map presented to the Fair Board at their February 10th meeting (see map below). The three new sites include two in the City of San Diego, and one small sliver of land owned by Del Mar at the corner of Jimmy Durante and Via de la Valle. For Del Mar to receive credit for housing built on the San Diego property, additional actions, such as a land exchange or state legislation, would be required.

The feasibility of building on any of the six sites is currently being studied by consultants hired by the City of Del Mar and funded by a state HAP grant. That funding ends March 31st, and final reports are expected soon after. The Fair Board briefly discussed ending negotiations with Del Mar, but agreed to wait for the feasibility study reports before taking any action.
