DMF: An Artful Summer

In mid-July, look for five spectacular outdoor sculptures that will be installed along Camino Del Mar and 15th Street for a 23-month display. And mark your calendar and plan to attend a reception to meet the artists on July 16 at the Del Mar Civic Center’s outdoor plaza. (Visit delmarfoundation.org for information on how to sign up for this free reception.)

These artworks represent the second round of sculptures to go on exhibit as part of the City’s Temporary Outdoor Sculpture program, which is fully funded and administered by the Del Mar Foundation. DMF’s terrific art consultant, Naomi Nussbaum, assisted DMF’s arts committee in selecting the sculptures for this exhibit.

Also coming soon: an updated Del Mar Art Walk Map that will help you plan walks to see the permanent and temporary artworks you’ll find all around town. The Map will be available at the reception, on the DMF website by mid-July.

The sculptures and where you’ll find them:

Red Seeker by Delos van Earl (15th & CDM) – an abstract creature which the artist encourages the viewer to interpret according to what s/he sees

Split Head by Ron Tatro (15th St., near Rusty Del Mar– from the artist’s fascinating series on Abstract Heads.

Planar Head by Ron Tatro (14th & CDM)

Cloud 7 by Peter Mitten (CDM & 12th St.) – Camino Del Mar & 12th St., reflecting the artist’s interest in geometric patterns in nature (in moisture, cell structure and beehives, for example)

Dirección Impredecible by Hugo Heredia (CDM & 9th St) – a contemporary tree-like sculpture incorporating the green element of recycled glass bottles and the earthy brown finish of metal.

A big thanks to our donors, whose generosity makes programs like this possible.
