Volunteer of the Year 2025, Linda Chisari
At DMCC’s Annual Volunteer Appreciation Event on Friday, April 25, Linda Chisari was recognized by the Board of Directors for her long service and heartfelt dedication as they presented her with the 2025 Volunteer of the Year Award. In addition to the award presented by DMCC, Linda was presented with a County Proclamation from County Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer’s office and a Certificate of Recognition from California State Senator Catherine Blakespear’s office. On Monday, June 2, the City of Del Mar is expected to deliver a proclamation in Linda’s honor at the City Council meeting.
Linda has been the leader of DMCC’s longest-running activity, Singing Together, for an unbelievable 23 years, and she recently retired from the DMCC Board of Directors, where she served as Chair of the Social Good Times Committee for five years. Board member and Tuesday Lunch Connections (TLC) captain Phyllis Mirsky originally nominated Linda for Volunteer of the Month in September 2024 because Linda had donated her time and musical talent to play the piano at DMCC’s grant-funded (by the Del Mar Foundation) TLC program for the age 85+ residents of Del Mar. Phyllis noted that “Linda’s creativity and commitment to the Del Mar community is reflected in her continuing stewardship of DMCC’s Singing Together Program, which is a wonderful opportunity for neighbors to join together in music and fellowship, and the senior participants of TLC were also fortunate to benefit from the joy she spreads!”
Congratulations Linda! DMCC programs and services depend on our incredible volunteers. To learn more about Linda, becoming a program leader like she is, or any other volunteer role, visit www.dmcc.cc/volunteerofthemonth.
The Role of Sex and Lifestyle on Alzheimer’s Disease
On May 9, DMCC welcomed Dr. Sarah Banks and Ella Lifset from UCSD’s Women: Tau and Inflammation Study (WITS), and they gave an informative and fascinating presentation about the current state of Alzheimer’s disease research, especially in regards to prevention, and what sex-specific differences exist in the disease.
Our friends at Del Mar TV were kind enough to film the presentation for those who want to watch it from home. If you’d like to view this presentation or any other special one-time presentation, you can visit www.dmcc.cc/dmccspecialprograms. Or you can view a full menu of DMCC’s recorded content, including ongoing programs like Remarkable Del Mar History and Qigong with Ali, event photos, and more, at www.dmcc.cc/multimedialibrary.
