DMF: Summer Fun

Summer is just around the corner! Soon the temperature will be heating up and the marine layer will dissipate. Horse racing season and the beach will draw many people for recreation and leisure. To add to the summer fun, the Foundation will be providing programming and activities for all ages.  Best of all, they’re all free!  What’s coming, you ask?

Summer Twilight Concerts: Dating back to 1983, the Foundation has produced a summer concert series with free admission. Originally, the concerts were in Seagrove Park and now take over Powerhouse Park for four Tuesdays afternoons/evenings during the summer.  What’s not to like: friends, food, beach, sunset, and fantastic live music! The line-up this summer includes:

June 24: Tim Flannery & The Lunatic Fringe

July 8: The Pine Mountain Logs

July 29: The Mighty Untouchables

August 12: Billy Nation – Billy Joel tribute

Desperado with special guest Jack Tempchin at one of last summer’s twilight concerts

Fourth of July Parade: The Foundation sponsors and organizes the annual 4th of July Parade in Del Mar.  Fire trucks, lifeguards, kids and adults dressed up in their best red, white, and blue, as well as Uncle Sam meet by the Powerhouse and stroll down Coast Blvd., followed by refreshments at the Powerhouse. Fun way to start off the holiday weekend!

DMF Talks:  Our well-received lecture series continues!  In April, Dr. Joseph Noel of the Salk Institute spoke on work he and others are studying using plants as carbon sequesters, moving carbon dioxide from the air to retain it in the soil of our wetlands. The next lecture is scheduled for August 7 at Town Hall. Be ready to be intellectually stimulated!
