Holiday Gratitude
DMCC is grateful for the incredible community partners that sustain us throughout the year, but that support is most evident during the holidays. The City of Del Mar provides us a venue to hold our Annual Benefit every Oct., and then again gives us use of facilities to host the Cookies & Cocoa Holiday Party, this year planned for 12/13. Del Mar Foundation provides DMCC with our longest-standing grant to run Tuesday Lunch Connections (TLC) twice monthly, and it’s even more appreciated when we serve turkey dinners with all the fixings during the Thanksgiving week TLC. Del Mar Rose Society annually creates Thanksgiving of Roses, in which volunteers deliver gorgeous rose bouquets to DMCCers who need a little extra holiday love due to injury, illness, or death of a spouse. Del Mar Garden Club organizes Project JOY, delivering a beautiful gift to those same older adults shortly before Christmas; this year, they’ve even created a handmade gift! San Diego Seniors Community Foundation provides us with a grant to help make our holiday outreach activities as special and inclusive as possible.
We hope to welcome 2025 with the same spirit of good will, strengthening our deep ties to community partners who care about the wellbeing of the rapidly growing number of older adults. We are also planning new, innovative opportunities that will be facilitated by our ever-expanding roster of talented, dedicated volunteers.
2025 Sneak Peek
DMCC has lots of great activities planned for 2025. In January, DMCC is launching a new grief support group, beginning a new session of the popular Writing Your Story memoir workshop, and hosting two community presentations, one about home safety and another about artificial intelligence. If you haven’t already, make sure you subscribe to DMCC’s email list at www.dmcc.cc/calendar and you’ll be the first to hear all about it!
Volunteer of the Month
DMCC’s Volunteer of the Month for November was Sheila Sharpe. Sheila is the head of DMCC’s Page Turners team, which organizes engaging monthly visits with authors for DMCC’s book club in partnership with the Del Mar library. Sheila also recently completed service on the DMCC Board of Directors during which she served as Program Chair. Sheila was nominated by her predecessor, current Program Chair Ellie Haviland.
DMCC programs and services depend on our incredible volunteers! To learn more about Sheila or opportunities to help our Program team, visit dmcc.cc/volunteerofthemonth.
