Commentary: Does Del Mar Need Our Own Steve Bannon?

Steve Bannon is a far right-wing advisor to former President Trump who is infamous for touting conspiracy theories with little or no basis in fact, and then refusing to correct the record or apologize for his inaccuracies.

Hershell Price sends almost daily “Knowledge for the Vote” eblasts containing stories lifted from various media outlets, usually without permission, and then adds opinion pieces and negative comments about Del Mar residents whose views he opposes. Rather than engage in useful discussion of differences in opinion based on some agreed set of facts, he resorts to character assassination by publishing biased and unverified information.

The most recent and egregious act was Price’s publication of a neighbor’s complaint about Ted Bakker – a widely respected community leader who has served on the Planning Commission for the past 12 years – the content of which was revealed to be incorrect by Bakker’s comments at the October 7th City Council meeting. Spreading defamatory rumors without any factual basis should be a reason for Hershell to apologize, and cease sending his nasty emails. Or maybe, rename them “Baseless Reasons for the Vote.”
