With my time as DMF president concluding next month, I want to use this month’s column to say THANK YOU to everyone I’ve been fortunate to work together with over the past two years for the betterment of our community.
Did you know that DMF has only one paid staff person? Everyone else, from those that plan, set up, stay on site during, and clean up after all our events, to those that serve on DMF’s ten committees and board of directors volunteer countless hours and incredible talents toward achieving our mission.
As for the one paid staff person (part time!) – Jan Barnes – where do I even begin? Jan has as good a historical knowledge of DMF as anyone, which has proven to be invaluable on many occasions. She keeps the many things DMF is working on at any given time on track, follows up so things don’t slip through the cracks, and consistently puts DMF’s needs first and foremost.
Del Mar is an incredibly generous community, and DMF has been fortunate to be a beneficiary of this generosity. Certainly, the organization has worked hard over the past four decades to earn the trust of so many donors, which has allowed us to raise the funds needed for our events, activities, grants, and other work, and to ensure the Foundation is prepared to serve the Del Mar community well into the future. Nevertheless, there are countless worthy organizations that seek funding; we are deeply grateful for those that choose to donate to DMF.
Thank you also to recipients of DMF grants for using the funds entrusted to you to do the many good things you do to make Del Mar such an amazing place. Your events, activities, and good work reflect well not only your organizations but on DMF as well.
Finally, thank you to so many individuals from each of the groups listed above for your guidance, advice, and support. I never would have made it through the past two years without it.
