Remembering Sammy

The Sandpiper is sad to report that we recently learned that our former Teen Reporter Sammy Hallal died of a brain tumor just as he was about to start his 3rd year at Tulane University. Sammy was a wonderful, talented young man with so much promise.

He said goodbye to us all in June, 2018, “I have greatly enjoyed my time on the Sandpiper. Not only did it give me a chance to improve my writing, but I got to step out into the community and learn more about the perspectives of the people around me on issues that affect all of us, and I want to thank you for the opportunity.”
