Del Mar needs Council members who demonstrate good judgment, advocate for and deliver the best results for our residents, and stand strong for the city by forging consensus on the issues confronting us. I am running, with five-time Del Mar Mayor Dave Druker’s endorsement and encouragement (Dave is retiring from Council in the fall), because I believe my experiences and temperament will allow me to deliver on those attributes for our residents while protecting Del Mar and the threats to our Community Plan from the external forces encircling the city. I hope to earn the support of every voter in Del Mar.

We find ourselves in a storm of external pressures from Sacramento and Washington that are causing issues that could pose significant economic damage to our town and residents. Train track relocation, compliance with affordable housing mandates, and even the number and duration of short-term rentals are all driven by these outside forces. We must respond with consensus positions driven by common sense and practicality and stand strong against bureaucratic pressures to protect residents.

As a current Del Mar Planning Commissioner, former senior executive/attorney at several global corporations, and former major newspaper journalist, I’m no stranger to tumultuous times. My experiences will allow me to help find practical solutions while focusing on preserving the hard work many have done to make Del Mar such a great place to live and work.

Lacey Logan, my wife of 30+ years, our two children and I were fortunate to move to Carmel Valley in 1999 and then able to buy our current Del Mar home in October 2015. Lacey is a dedicated civic volunteer who has made a difference at numerous local and regional non-profits.

We love living in Del Mar and want to do whatever is necessary to protect and enhance this beautiful community. In the coming years that means no trains under homes or businesses and no eminent domain; compliance with state housing mandates that respects the Community Plan; preservation of views and our fragile bluffs; climate adaptation resiliency and environmental sensitivity (no managed retreat); and a continued approach to overseeing the city’s management (e.g. undergrounding) with a continued commitment to fiscal discipline and transparency in all actions.

I look forward to meeting with you during my campaign and understanding your issues and concerns. To learn more, offer your views, or express support please visit www.John4DelMar.com.
