Tracy Martinez

It has been an honor to serve our city’s residents starting as a civic volunteer working on various committees, being elected to your City Council in 2020, and serving as your mayor in 2023. I have collaborated with my colleagues to address a significant number of important issues for our community and our accomplishments have been many but there is still important work to be done. That is why I am running for re-election.

Although I have many priorities, here are three of the most pressing.

We must get the train off our fragile bluff. We must do everything possible to prevent a tunnel under homes and businesses with no eminent domain. Other routes must be explored to prevent this from happening.

We must get affordable housing on the Fairgrounds. We established financial and architectural feasibility for an affordable housing development on the Fairgrounds. This is necessary because the 22nd Agricultural District occupies 25% of our land and our RHNA allocation includes their jobs. We are requesting only two acres or less of their 370 acres for 61 affordable units.

Protect our Community Plan. It is important to protect our neighborhoods from State mandated overdevelopment and protect our community character and Community Plan. Overdevelopment will destroy our village character, impede views and decrease open space. We must be vigilant and protective as we have done by successfully, legally challenging SB9, which would have allowed up to four houses on a single-family lot. I voted to mandate ADU’s to be used for dwelling units, not more FAR. We are now completing objective design standards for multi-family units that will help protect our community character. I will continue to advocate for local control. We should build our fair share of affordable housing in a way that will harmonize with our community character, not let developers have the keys to our city.

We must remain diligent against legislation that proposes to encourages managed retreat.

We must continue to support our businesses. I am happy to report 26 new businesses have opened in Del Mar since the pandemic.

My husband, Alan, and I are so fortunate to live in Del Mar. We have a wonderful community with many dedicated volunteers that make Del Mar so uniquely special. I will continue to work hard to do what is in the best interests of our residents with transparency, collaboration, and goodwill. Learn more at Tracy4DelMar.com.
