Roving Teen Reporters: Welcome Hinano and Sneha

We are happy to welcome our two new teen reporters, Hinano Kato and Sneha Lele, both inspired by their journalism class at Torrey Pines High School, now on the staff of the Falconer newspaper. Their first assignment was to interview one another—both pieces in the July 2024 issue of the website edition of the Sandpiper.

Sneha says she writes mostly for the opinion section and feels it resonates perfectly with the style of the Sandpiper: “I think the Sandpiper welcoming student writers is brilliant and they’re getting a really good range of perspectives and I’m super excited to be a part of that…We’re going to be the next lawyers, doctors, policymakers so getting our voices out as early as possible is extremely important.”

Kato says “as a teen reporter, we have very unique perspectives.” she is delighted to bring her passion and talents in student journalism to the Sandpiper, “ready to present a student perspective on controversial issues…I’m looking forward to being able to express teen views on certain events going on in the Del Mar community.”
