“Looking to expand their presence and offerings, Surf Club Sports partnered with HED (Architects) …. to design the new, 48,000 square foot multi-purpose building on a 24-acre site in the heart of San Diego.”
In the heart of San Diego actually means at the intersection of Via de la Valle and El Camino Real, just east of Mary’s Tack and Feed Store. The building site has had a number of recent proposed projects, none of which have come to fruition. Plans to widen El Camino Real to 4 lanes and move the roadway further east complicate site planning, and the proposed site is on City of San Diego land reserved for agriculture and light recreational use. Traffic impacts of Surf Club events are already disruptive and adding 350 parking spaces with ingress/egress on Via de la Valle will not improve the situation.
