As SANDAG is examining alternatives to relocate the railway off our narrowing bluffs by 2035, phase 5 of the Del Mar Bluffs Stabilization Project is starting construction of an at least $78 million attempt to stabilize them. The three year construction project will install “soldier piles,” cable tie-backs, and seawalls along a 1.6-mile-long work area between Coast Boulevard and Carmel Valley Road. Additionally, improvements to pedestrian access along the tracks may be next, but not until 2026
