Will you be DMCC’s Valentine?
The Champagne and Chocolate Open House is an annual event for seniors and those who care about them to come to our headquarters, connect with the DMCC community and enjoy some bubbly and chocolate on us. On Friday, February 16, we hope we’ll see you at the Del Mar Community Building (225 9th St) between 2 and 4pm. This is a great opportunity to meet DMCC’s participants, volunteers, community partners, and staff, and to learn more about what we do. Bring your questions and ideas! We’ll also have volunteers on hand performing blood pressure screenings as part of San Diego County Love Your Heart week. Please register so we can supply enough treats for everyone: www.dmcc.cc/champagneandchocolate
Talking Taxes
On Thursday, February 22 at 11am, DMCC Treasurer Wayne Otchis, a retired accountant who ran his own local tax preparation service for decades, will appear at Del Mar Town Hall (1050 Camino Del Mar) to make a presentation about what Del Mar seniors need to know as they prepare their 2023 taxes and plan their 2024 finances. He will review changes in tax laws at the federal and state level, and he will be available for questions. Please register at www.dmcc.cc/programregistration
Reach Out and Give Back
Del Mar is a community of people with generous spirits. With that in mind, January brought the debut of a new community service opportunity for Del Mar seniors: the Reach Out Club. Led by volunteers Arlene Prater and Ann Gardner, DMCC’s Reach Out Club will provide senior-accessible opportunities for volunteerism. The club’s first scheduled outings will involve serving free lunch to unhoused and very low-income seniors in downtown San Diego.
If you want to join in on the generosity, or if you have a great idea for a group volunteering opportunity for seniors, please let us know! Email dmcc@dmcc.cc or call our office at (858) 792-7565 and we’ll make sure you have all the information you need to get in the game of giving back.
Volunteer of the Month – January
DMCC’s Volunteer of the Month for January 2024 was Social and Good Times committee member Ann Feeney, nominated by the committee’s chair Linda Chisari, because “Ann’s hard work and willingness to assist with any task were instrumental in making sure that we had everything necessary to making our Cookies and Cocoa Holiday Party such a success in 2023!”
DMCC programs and services depend on our incredible volunteers! To learn more about Ann or becoming a DMCC volunteer, visit dmcc.cc/volunteerofthemonth.
