Del Mar Foundation

The Del Mar Foundation’s new year is off to a fantastic start.

Our 2023-24 season of First Thursdays continued in January with a spectacular “California Dreamin’: From Laurel Canyon to Nashville Originals” performance by singer/songwriter Eve Selis’s band to a packed house.

On January 18, we held our first DMF Talk of the year – “Art Meets Science: Visualizing the Hidden Beauty and Complexity Inside the Living Cell.” As the photo below shows, it was again a full house for this truly special event that included an art exhibit plus four speakers who shared insight into how art brings the submicroscopic world of cells into focus. The speakers were in town for the CellVis conference, coordinated by Art Olson, a Del Mar resident and a professor at Scripps Research. More information is on the DMF website (bit.ly/science-meets-art-talk) and Olson’s story in the December Sandpiper (Read it here).

We are planning many more great DMF events for 2024. Helping with all our work are four amazing community members who have joined the DMF board: Linda Bachrach, Charlie Pope, Greg Glassman, and Phil Blair.

2024 is going to be a great year! We hope you’ll join us often at DMF events we hope will inform and inspire us all, as we work to promote civic pride and cohesiveness in our very special community.
