Garbage Be Gone

As the Sandpiper March issue went to press, the City Council was scheduled to award a new, 10-year franchise agreement for solid waste collection in Del Mar, with bids from EDCO, Republic Services, and Waste Management.

The staff recommendation was to award the contract to EDCO: “EDCO’s proposal demonstrated the highest qualification score, and the lowest overall proposed rate revenue charged to ratepayers, offering the greatest overall value to the City.”

Waste Management’s agreement expires on June 30, 2022, and the new agreement will take effect on July 1. The Sandpiper’s report on the three proposals, and the Council’s decision on the award of the new agreement, is available here.
