This month, Del Mar’s registered voters will be receiving a mailed invitation to participate in an online survey asking residents how they want to use the 5.3-acre Shores Park west of Camino del Mar at Ninth Street and Stratford Court in the future. The invitation will include a custom access code followed by a phone call survey to those who do not respond to the invitation within the first week. The survey is one of several ways, including group interviews, community pop-up booths and creative events, the City is hosting as Phase One to “discover” community preferences for the park. Input from this survey - not to be confused with the City Hall poll or the Satisfaction survey - will be very important in determining how the community would like to use the park.

The survey focuses on parks and recreational opportunities, excluding the beach, in Del Mar for both adults and children, one goal being to identify unmet recreational needs. The survey questionnaire is based on input from the Shores Advisory Committee, eight residents who are overseeing the Shores Park Master Plan process for the City Council. The phone interview is expected to take about 10 minutes, and the information will be combined with information from other Phase One “discover” activities to identify common community themes. Those themes will be considered by the Advisory Committee, the Parks and Recreation Committee and City Council before the City moves into Phase Two, an “imagine” mode, when alternative developments for the site will be considered.

Residents are encouraged to sign up for ongoing Shores Advisory Committee information at www.delmar.ca.us/shorespark, and don’t forget to go to www.enagedelmar.com, the City’s new online community engagement tool to begin communicating with the city and other residents on the future of Del Mar.
