PICNIC at Powerhouse Park
Bill Morris| Del Mar Foundation

Labor Day has come and gone, politely opening the doors for the summer crowds to return home. We can now walk our dogs on almost the entire beach! October brings the best weather of the year and there is no better way to enjoy it than an old-fashioned community picnic! You must mark your calendar for Sunday, October 9, 2016 from 12-4 PM. You cannot miss our first annual Picnic at Powerhouse Park. Spending an afternoon getting together with your friends and neighbors of all ages is much cooler than Pokemon-go or football!

Bring a picnic lunch or purchase sandwiches from Jersey Mike’s Subs to enjoy on your own blanket or at at one our red-checkered table-cloth-covered tables. In either case, we will provide a water station to keep you hydrated while having fun. Tasting Room Del Mar is sponsoring a Beer and Wine garden.
There will be local bands providing entertainment on the Powerhouse stage. We will have both a magician and face painting. Have nostalgic memories of old-fashioned lawn games? Relive the nostalgia by taking part in some sack races, three-legged races and tug-of-war plus many more quaint but fun games. Chess masters will be available for challenges or a few lessons. You will have an opportunity to meet the Del Mar City Council Candidates and some more exotic birds from Free Flight, too.

Many Del Mar non-profits are participating in the picnic: The Del Mar Library will be hosting a used book sale. Del Mar Community Connections will have “Sweet Treats.” There will be displays by the Del Mar Historical Society, the Del Mar Rose Society, CERT - Del Mar’s Community Emergency Response Team, the Del Mar Lifeguards and our first responders - police, fire and more!
This community event is free and open to the public. We look forward to seeing you on October 9th! -Bill Morris, Del Mar Foundation.
