A new emergency medical provider has been named for Del Mar and began service on January 1, 2014. American Medical Response (AMR) was selected by the County to serve the cities of Del Mar, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Rancho Santa Fe and parts of Elfin Forest. Known collectively as the San Dieguito Ambulance District (CSA 17), the area covers more than 68 square miles and has 150,000 residents.

AMR was selected because they promise to ensure the most efficient deployment of resources and 24-hour-a-day bilingual dispatchers and translation with the services they will be giving us.

Additionally, AMR purchased six new Type III ambulances (large box style) that feature state-of-the-art life-saving technology including:

• Immediate wireless transmission of patient EKG data from the field to emergency facilities, ensuring seamless care and treatment

• Real-time clinical quality assurance notification software that interfaces with the electronic patient care record, allowing for additional oversight of patient care
AMR representatives are excited about adding our coastal cities to their coverage.

Currently they provide 911 emergency medical services to the cities of Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, National City, La Mesa and Lemon Grove. They also serve the communities of Alpine, Bonita, Jamul, Pine Valley, Boulevard and Otay Mesa, as well as residences within the San Miguel Fire Protection District. Thus their services will help more than 765, 000 residents in more than 13 San Diego County cities and communities.

Our coastal cities have a dedicated Citizens’ Emergency Response Teams in each area and AMR promises they will collaborate closely with these volunteers and healthcare leaders on disaster planning and response plans as well.
