This is the first of a series profiling successful businesses
that have been founded by Del Mar residents.

Not quite Silicon Valley but Asteres Inc. was started in a Del Mar garage…literally. This is where Linda Pinney, Founder & CEO, who lives in the Village and also owns one of the mixed use buildings on Stratford Court, started Asteres Inc. Asteres Inc. develops secure self-service kiosks for the storage and delivery of prescriptions and consumer products worldwide. Asteres’ premier product is ScriptCenter, the first prescription pick-up kiosk for retail, healthcare and military pharmacies that allows patients to pick up and pay for their prescriptions without waiting in line even when the pharmacy is closed. Some of you may recall the days when Longs Drugs, prior to the CVS takeover, had ScriptCenter (The Big Blue Box, as some of us so fondly referred to it) so Del Marians could pick up their prescriptions quickly and conveniently. Very simply put, if you have ever waited in line or showed up 5 minutes late to pick up your prescription, ScriptCenter is ready 24/7 to serve you. Asteres now has installations in retail, hospital, and military pharmacies worldwide and is located in Sorrento Valley where the machines are manufactured as well.

Linda, a 20-year Del Mar resident regularly seen in our restaurants and walking around town with her dogs, is not new to start-ups or prescription delivery technology. She was part of the originating team at Pyxis Corp which enjoyed a successful IPO with an eventual sale to Cardinal Health for almost $1 billion. If you or your family have ever been in the hospital, there is a 90% chance that the medications and supplies you received came out of a Pyxis machine. Asteres is now focused on forever changing the way the world picks up their regular prescriptions….by avoiding long lines and being available 24/7.
