Community input solicited by Donahue Schriber Realty Group, new owners of the Del Mar Heights Village Shopping Center on Mango Drive, centered on wanting a greater variety of stores, more places to socialize and improved landscaping according to Russ Monroe, Project Manager. He said that many clarified they would like more grocery offerings with either an expanded Von’s or the addition of a specialty grocer.

Donahue Schriber, who also owns the recently renovated Del Mar Highlands center across I-5 at Del Mar Heights and El Camino Real, announced their intention to update the Heights shopping center and sought feedback from residents and shoppers through both online and on site surveys last fall. Monroe said they got over 500 responses and since completing the market research their focus has been on working closely with both Von’s and CVS who own their own buildings. “We are eager to use the feedback gathered from the community to finalize our own renovation plans but need to coordinate with these large anchor tenants before we can do so.”

He noted that responses also emphasized the high value of a convenient neighborhood location and easy parking, and confirmed that the new owners were not going to expand the shopping center during the renovation. “It will remain the same size” he said, adding that he expects to spend the next several months working on plans that are “responsive to the community’s need. Our goal is to begin construction in early 2014.”
