Have you noticed the flock of seabirds flying in formation at City Hall? Well, the sculpture by artist Frank Mando has been installed for 6 months through the generosity of the Del Mar Garden Club. Installation included the costs of the fee required to pay the artist, the installation and the cement foundation needed to keep the sculpture stable as well as liability insurance. The Garden Club has paid all expenses.

The club received permission from the city council to display this particular work for 6 months and then a different work will be brought to town. The Garden Club, working with the Port of San Diego, San Diego Fine Arts Association, San Diego Botanical Garden and our own Public Works Department brought this sculpture from the Embarcadero in downtown San Diego, near the Star of India. It was part of the urban trees project sponsored by the Port District.

For many months the Garden Club has been working to beautify this important corner of Del Mar and this is the first of many exciting art projects being planned. In the future you can look forward to a variety of sculptures to appear at that spot.
