A stroll through Del Mar Village no longer means just shopping or eating at the many fine restaurants in town. Because of the efforts of the talented members of the Del Mar Garden Club you don’t have to go far to see beautiful plants and landscaping current to today’s tastes. The Del Mar Post Office has been lovingly tended for many years by several volunteers who arrive weekly, weeding, planting new varieties and caring for not so healthy plants. At the far west corner of the front is a small glassed in kiosk where displays change regularly. Some displays have celebrated the July 4th holiday; others have shown prize roses, hydrangeas and many native plants grown in club member’s gardens.

Last spring, with financial help from the Friends of the Library, members worked hard landscaping the neglected garden in front of the library. James Hubbell was invited to come by to consult on the proper placement of his beautiful sculpture-for so many years lost among the shrubs. Ground cover and easy to care for succulents highlight the garden and are water-wise in addition.

The most recent task undertaken by the Garden Club was the beautification in front of City Hall. Old water thirsty plants were removed with the help of the City Hall maintenance staff and again succulents replaced them.

On December 4th and 11th the Garden Club will be selling its cookbook “Del Mar Flavors” at the local Farmers Market. It’s a perfect addition to a cookbook collection or as a holiday gift.
