Let's
Celebrate 50 Years!
Mark your calendars for a wonderful, fun-filled day with friends and neighbors as we celebrate the City’s 50th Birthday. The special date is Sunday afternoon, July 12th in Powerhouse Park. There will be games for children, an opportunity to put your predictions for the next 50 years in a time capsule, a BBQ, and a dance contest with the ever-popular Mar Dels. Opening ceremonies start at 4:30 PM. Buckboard Catering will be barbequing burgers and hot dogs. Potato salad, watermelon, ice tea, lemonade, and punch are also on the menu. For a special treat, lemon cakes will be provided for dessert by Del Mar Community Connections. The cost is $12 for adults and $8 for children under 10. Price of meals, if available, will be higher the day of the celebration. You can make your reservation by sending a check to the Del Mar Foundation, P. O. Box 2913, Del Mar, CA 92014 or online at www.delmarfoundation.org. Reservation deadline is July 6th. The Del Mar Library is offering a quiet story time and a crafts table in the Park for those children ready for a break from the excitement. For those really active youngsters, a physical education teacher will be on hand to lead games and activities. The Del Mar Historical Society has promised to have lots of good old pictures inside the Powerhouse. I hear they have even put together a slide-show of photographs from 1959 for us to watch! What fun! Be sure to dig up a photo of yourself from circa 1959, (or an early photo of yourself). To be included in the slide show, email your photo to heather@dmcc.cc or bring it to the Del Mar Community Connections office at the south end of the Annex. How
