Barbara
Mandel Pache, Coordinator,
Campaign Del Mar Shores
Based
on over a year of
community input,
the Friends of Del
Mar Parks created a
visual representation
of what the Shores
Park may look like in
the future.
The
top priorities voiced
by the community to
date for the future
uses of Del Mar Shores
Park are: a fenced
dog park (36%), baseball/softball
field (31.8%), children’s
play area (31.8%),
and soccer field (31.8%).
The “vision” includes
space for a community
garden (priority to
27.3% of respondents),
basketball and tennis
courts, the Del Mar
Historical Society Alvarado
House, open space with
benches and picnic tables
facing the ocean view,
and potential relocation
of the weekly Farmer’s
Market, in addition
to the four top priorities
and the Winston School
campus. The “vision” is
not an official plan
for the park. The City
Council will guide
an official public planning
process after the property
is fully paid for.
The
amount raised so
far
from 450 contributors
is $5.4 million of
the $8.5 million
target
amount. The city
owes
payments of $30,000
by June 30 and $47,000
by August 30. The
fundraising strategy
for reaching the
goal
is to get every household
to contribute $41
per month for 36 months.
