Achievements at Canyon Crest
June 2008 | by Susan Miller

Alex M, with Erica Williams, ASB Director at CCA

In August 2004, the inaugural -- and, at the time, only -- class of students at Canyon Crest Academy (CCA) began their freshman year at the district's newest high school. This month, as the CCA Class of 2008, they will become the school's first graduates and leave a legacy of impressive achievements. The Sandpiper recently interviewed Alex M, Class of 2008 and President of the Canyon Crest Academy Associated Student Body.

Please tell us about yourself and your future plans.

I live in Carmel Valley . I will attend Georgetown University in the fall, specifically the McDonough School of Business to study finance. I plan, after college, to get involved in some facet of business, hopefully in the fields of finance and administration. I would love to be a CFO of a major corporation at some point.

What does it feel like to be part of the first graduating class?

It feels great to have been the first class to go through each experience and to have made such an impact on the school. I'm really proud to have helped start some of the traditions that CCA will become known for and of the fact that our class has proven that a new school can be as strong as – and in some ways stronger than – a well-established one.

What are some of the proudest accomplishments of CCA Class of 2008?

I feel absolutely honored to have been a part of the Canyon Crest Academy Class of 2008. We have had the opportunity to build a culture at CCA, an opportunity that we as a class seized and took advantage of. I am so proud to have helped set a culture that promotes individuality, and that inspires all students to follow their passions. I am extremely proud of the Associated Student Body/Leadership program for putting on such awesome events as the pep rally, proms, Raven Idol, and record-breaking charity events.

Does CCA Class of 2008 have a collective "personality" and if so, how would you describe it?

The Class of 2008 definitely has its own special personality: we are a group of students dedicated to giving our all and truly seizing the unique opportunities that have been offered to us. We have been a group of leaders, and we have carved our own path through the high school experience, which has been just wonderful.

Which memories stand out most when you look back on your last four years?

I thoroughly loved my experience at CCA and will always remember the people with whom I spent the last four years. I will always remember the first ASB event in CCA history, the cheese puff toss at lunch, and how much we've grown since then. Of course, going to class in trailers on the first day of high school will always be a lasting memory.

Congratulations to Alex M and all Class of 2008 graduates!
